Operations Manager: “Is there a management pack for … ?”

(Last update on 12/27/2012)

There is an official System Center catalog hosted on PinPoint. I created this separate and unofficial page for two main use cases:

  1. Being able to easily identify non-Microsoft products for which there management packs, without browsing the whole list on several pages
  2. Also include community developed MP for commercial software and hardware. While not supported, some of these MP may represent an alternative to fee-based MP, and sometimes they do not have a commercial counterpart so they represent a good option instead of creating your own management pack.

The table lists known management packs for commercial software and hardware. Management packs cost is also specified when known, “free” meaning that it comes with the associated technology (available as a free download or through your customer representative for this vendor). If you know of other management packs of if you feel there are any mistakes, please let me know so I can update the page! And remember that, in most cases, a management pack designed for OpsMgr 2007 should also work with OpsMgr 2012.

Also, if we want to be fully complete here, the list should also include:

–        All Microsoft servers applications. I only mentioned a few of them, because it’s very likely that there is a management pack for these applications, either on the product’s media or on the download center (Microsoft servers teams create management packs as part of their development engineering criteria)

–        About 300 agentless-based management packs from Quest Software (formerly eXc Software management packs, now part of Dell). I did not include all of them in the table below, to keep it readable. But if you don’t find a management pack below, it’s possible that there is one available from Dell/Quest.

Finally, there are MANY MANY community management packs for specific scenarios like SMB Performance or synthetic checks on DNS/SMTP, etc (like here – some of them are mentioned here when I thought it made sense). The list here is solely focusing on management packs for software/hardware. It’s also possible to develop your own management packs starting with the built-in templates in the Authoring Pane of the OpsMgr console, using the dedicated Authoring Console or using specialized tools like Management Pack Monitoring Studio or PowerWF.
